House Training

Our goal is to make the transition to bringing home a new puppy as easy as possible. One way that we do this is to start house training the puppies. Usually, puppies won't go to the bathroom where they sleep. This is why crate training works well for some families.

We started using puppy pads in a corner of their whelping box from the beginning. The puppies quickly identified this as the place to go to the bathroom. This week we have added alphalfa pellets to the area. These pellets smell like grass and will help make the transition to going outside to the bathroom even easier!

The pellets are a little trickier to walk on and feel wobbly under their tiny paws. This new activity helps the puppies get accustomed to new sensations and also helps to develop muscle and coordination.
